Introduction
Englishlanguagelearninghasbecomeasignificantaspectofacademicandprofessionaldevelopmentglobally.Ithasbeenacknowledgedthatnon-English-speakingstudentsexperiencechallengesinlearningEnglishlanguageduetofactorssuchasmotivation,self-efficacy,andlearningstrategies(Karimi,Karami,&Fayezi,2012).Assuch,thispaperexplorestherelationshipbetweenEnglishlanguagelearningstrategiesandself-efficacyofnon-English-speakingstudents.
Background
EffectiveEnglishlanguagelearningrequireslearnerstobeequippedwitheffectivelearningstrategiesthatenablethemtoacquireanduselanguageskills.Learningstrategiesrefertoanyactionortaskthatlearnersundertaketoimproveorfacilitatetheirlanguagelearningprocess(Oxford,2011).Thesemayincludebutarenotlimitedtomemorization,repetition,note-taking,andcontextualization.Ontheotherhand,self-efficacyisacrucialfactorinlanguagelearningasitcontributestothedeterminationandsuccessfuloutcomesofstudents.Self-efficacyisdefinedasthebeliefofanindividual’sabilitytoperformtasksorachievecertaingoals(Bandura,1997).
SeveralstudieshavebeenconductedtoanalyzetherelationshipbetweenEnglishlanguagelearningstrategiesandself-efficacyinnon-English-speakingstudents.Somestudieshaveshownapositiverelationshipbetweenlearningstrategiesandself-efficacywhileothersshownocorrelation(Karatepe,2013).Althoughthestudieshaveproduceddifferentfindings,theyhavecontributedtotheunderstandingoftherelationshipbetweenthesetwovariables.
Methodology
Toconductthisresearch,aquestionnairesurveywasconductedamongnon-English-speakingstudentsstudyingatacertainuniversity.Thequestionnairewasdividedintotwoparts.Thefirstpartofthequestionnairewasdesignedtomeasurethestudents'EnglishlanguagelearningstrategiesusingtheStrategyInventoryforLanguageLearning(SILL)questionnaire.TheSILLquestionnaireconsistsof50items,andeachitemisratedonafour-pointLikertscale.Thesecondpartofthequestionnairewasdesignedtomeasurethestudents'self-efficacyusingtheGeneralSelf-EfficacyScale(GSE)questionnaire.TheGSEquestionnaireconsi
