BNSFistheshortformoftheBurlingtonNorthernandSantaFeRailway.BNSF’shistorydatesbackmorethan160yearsto1849,whenthe12-mileAuroraBranchRailroadwasfoundedinIllinois.Overthenextseveraldecades,manyadditionalraillineswerebuiltandeventuallybecamepartofwhatistoday’sBNSFRailway.SomeofBNSF’smajorpredecessorrailroadswereAtchison,Topeka&SantaFe;BurlingtonNorthern;Chicago,Burlington&Quincy;Frisco;GreatNorthern;NorthernPaci_c;andSpokane,Portland&Seattle.BNSFwascreatedSept.22,1995,fromthemergerofBurlingtonNorthernInc.(parentcompanyofBurlingtonNorthernRailroad)andSantaFePaci_cCorporation(parentcompanyoftheAtchison,Topeka&SantaFeRailway).OnFebruary12,2010,BNSFbecameasubsidiaryofBerkshireHathaway,Inc
