Abstract
Woodenflooringhasbeenincreasinglypopularovertheyearsduetoitsaestheticanddurablequalitieswhichhavebeenconsideredasoneofthebestflooringoptions.However,theproductionanduseofthesewoodenfloorsovertheirlifespanconsumeresourcesandcontributetogreenhousegasemissions,leadingtopotentialenvironmentalimpacts.Therefore,itiscrucialforthewoodenflooringindustrytoassessthegreenhousegasemissionsofwoodenflooringthroughtheproductlifecycletoidentifyandimplementmeasurestoreduceemissions.Thispaperaimstoanalyzethegreenhousegasemissionsofwoodenflooringproductsbyusingalifecycleassessmentmethodology,identifyingkeyareasofemissionsandsuggestingmeasurestoreducethecarbonfootprintofwoodenflooring.
Introduction
Woodenflooringisanincreasinglypopularoptionintheflooringmarket.Overtheyears,ithascomealongway,frombeingaluxuryitemtoacommonsightinhomesandoffices.Thequalitiesofwoodenflooring,includingdurability,aestheticvalue,anditsabilitytoincreasethevalueofhomes,makeitapreferredflooringoptionformany.However,theresourceconsumptionandenvironmentalimpactsthatareassociatedwiththeproductionanduseofwoodenflooringoveritslifespanhaveledtoconcernsregardingitssustainability.
Greenhousegas(GHG)emissionshavebecomeacriticalenvironmentalissueduetotheircontributiontoglobalwarming.ThemanufacturingprocessofwoodenflooringgeneratesvariousGHGemissions,includingcarbondioxide,methane,andnitrousoxide.Additionally,solidwoodflooringisanaturalandrenewableresourcethatcanbeharvestedandprocessedsustainably,makingitanattractiveandsustainableflooringoption.Asaresult,itisessentialtounderstandthelifecycleofwoodenflooringproductsandassesstheirGHGemissionstoidentifywaystoreducethecarbonfootprintofwoodenflooring.
