Chapter1purposesandpriciples
Article1
ThePurposesoftheUnitedNationsare:
Tomaintaininternationalpeaceandsecurity，andtothatend:totakeeffectivecollectivemeasuresforthepreventionandremovalofthreatstothepeace，andforthesuppressionofactsofaggressionorotherbreachesofthepeace,andtobringaboutbypeacefulmeans,andinconformitywiththeprinciplesofjusticeandinternationallaw,adjustmentorsettlementofinternationaldisputesorsituationswhichmightleadtoabreachofthepeace;
Todevelopfriendlyrelationsamongnationsbasedonrespectfortheprincipleofequalrightsandself—determinationofpeoples，andtotakeotherappropriatemeasurestostrengthenuniversalpeace;
Toachieveinternationalco-operationinsolvinginternationalproblemsofaneconomic,social,cultural，orhumanitariancharacter，andinpromotingandencouragingrespectforhumanrightsandforfundamentalfreedomsforallwithoutdistinctionastorace，sex，language,orreligion；and
Tobeacentreforharmonizingtheactionsofnationsintheattainmentofthesecommonends。
Article2
TheOrganizationanditsMembers,inpursuitofthePurposesstatedinArticle1，shallactinaccordancewiththefollowingPrinciples。
TheOrganizationisbasedontheprincipleofthesovereignequalityofallitsMembers。
AllMembers，inordertoensuretoallofthemtherightsandbenefitsresultingfrommembership,shallfulfillingoodfaiththeobligationsassumedbytheminaccordancewiththepresentCharter.
AllMembersshallsettletheirinternationaldisputesbypeacefulmeansinsuchamannerthatinternationalpeaceandsecurity，andjustice，arenotendangered.
AllMembersshallrefrainintheirinternationalrelationsfromthethreatoruseofforceagainsttheterritorialintegrityorpoliticalindependenceofanystate，orinanyothermannerinconsistentwiththePurposesoftheUnitedNations.
AllMembersshallgivetheUnitedNationseveryassistanceinanyactionittakesinaccordancewiththepresentCharter,andshallrefrainfromgivingassistancetoanystateagainstwhichtheUnitedNationsistakingpreventiveorenforcementaction。
TheOrganizationshallensurethatstateswhicharenotMembersoftheUnitedNations
