Introduction
HSDPA(High-SpeedDownlinkPacketAccess)isawirelesscommunicationprotocolthatprovideshigh-speeddatatransferfromthebasestationtotheuserequipment(UE).HSDPAusesvarioustechniquestoimprovedatatransferrateandcapacity,includingHARQ(HybridAutomaticRepeatRequest).
HARQisatechniquethatcombinestwotypesoferrorcorrectionmethods:AutomaticRepeatRequest(ARQ)andForwardErrorCorrection(FEC).InHSDPA,theHARQtechniqueisusedtoimprovethereliabilityandefficiencyofthedatatransferprocess.ThispaperwilldiscusstheperformancecomparisonandanalysisoftheHARQtechniqueinHSDPA.

HARQisatechniquethatenablesthereceivertodetectandcorrecterrorsinthereceiveddata.InHSDPA,HARQisusedforretransmissionofdatapacketsthatarelostorcorruptedduringthedatatransferprocess.HARQcomprisestwotypesoferrorcorrectionmethods:ARQandFEC.
ARQisatechniqueinwhichthereceiversendsarequesttothesendertoresenddatapacketsthatarelostorcorruptedduringthedatatransferprocess.ARQisusedinHSDPAforretransmissionofthedatapacketsthatarelostorcorruptedduringthedatatransferprocess.ARQisareliableerrorcorrectionmethodthatensuresthatthelostorcorrupteddatapacketsareretransmitted.
FECisatechniqueinwhichadditionaldatabitsareaddedtotheoriginaldatapackettoprotectitfromerrorsduringtransmission.FECisusedinHSDPAtoencodetheoriginaldatapacketwithadditionalbitstoprotectitfromerrorsduringthedatatransferprocess.FECisalessreliableerrorcorrectionmethodthanARQbutismoreefficientthanARQbecauseitdoesnotrequireretransmissionofthelostorcorrupteddatapacket.
PerformanceComparisonandAnalysisofHARQinHSDPA
TheperformanceofHARQinHSDPAcanbeanalyzedbasedonitslatency,throughput,anderrorrate.Latencyreferstothedelayinthetransmissionofthedatapacketfromthebasestationtotheuserequipment.Throughputreferstotheamountofdatathatcanbetransferredinagiventimeperiod.Errorratereferstotheprobabilityofanerroroccurringinthedatatransferprocess.
