LTE-AdvancedisastandardforwirelesscommunicationandisanextensionoftheLTE(LongTermEvolution)standard.Itprovideshigherdataratesandbettercoveragethanthepreviousgenerationsofwirelessstandards.Thedownlinkofawirelesscommunicationsystemistheprocessoftransmittingdatafromthebasestationtotheuser'sdevice.Inthispaper,wepresenttheimplementationofdownlinksimulationoftheLTE-Advancedstandard.Wealsodiscussseveralresearchtopicsrelatedtothisstandard.
ImplementationofDownlinkSimulation
ThesimulationofdownlinktransmissionintheLTE-Advancedstandardinvolvesseveralsteps.Thefirststepistogeneratethechannelmodel.Inwirelesscommunication,thechannelvarieswithtime,frequency,andspace.Therefore,arealisticchannelmodelisnecessaryforsimulation.Severalchannelmodelsareavailableforthispurpose,andthechoiceofthechannelmodeldependsonthesimulationscenario.
Thesecondstepistogeneratethesignalthatistransmittedfromthebasestationtotheuser'sdevice.Thissignalconsistsofseveralresourceelements(REs),whicharethebasicunitsofaresourcegrid.EachREcorrespondstoasubcarrierinthefrequencydomainandasymbolinthetimedomain.ThesignaltransmittedfromthebasestationismodulatedusingamodulationschemesuchasQPSKor16-QAM.
Thethirdstepistosimulatethedecodingprocessattheuser'sdevice.Thedecodingprocessinvolvesseveralsteps,suchaschannelestimation,interferencecancellation,anddecodingofthecodedbits.Theoutputofthedecodingprocessisthereceivedsignalthatisusedbytheuser'sdevice.
Finally,theperformanceofthedownlinktransmissionisevaluatedusingvariousmetricssuchasthebiterrorrate,throughput,andspectralefficiency.
