初中生英语词汇学习策略使用现状的调查研究
Introduction:
WiththeadvancementofglobalizationandtheincreasingimportanceofEnglishlanguageproficiency,learningEnglishhasbecomeanessentialcomponentofeducationformanystudentsinChina.Amongthem,thejuniorhighschoolstudentsareatacrucialstageofEnglishlearning.Hence,itiscrucialtoexplorethelearningstrategiesandpreferencesofjuniorhighschoolstudentstoenhancetheirEnglishvocabularylearning.ThecurrentstudyaimstoexploretheexistingusageofvocabularylearningstrategiesamongjuniorhighschoolstudentsinEnglishlanguagelearning.
Methodology:
Toconductthisstudy,asurveywasdesignedusingaLikertscalequestionnairetogaugethevocabularylearningstrategiesusedbyjuniorhighschoolstudents.Atotalof300juniorhighschoolstudentsfromtwodifferentschoolswereselected,andtheywereaskedtoanswerthequestionnaire.Theparticipantswerebetween12to15yearsold,andthestudywasconductedinFuzhou,China.
Results:
TheresultsfoundthatamajorityofstudentsrelymainlyonmemorizationandtranslationtolearnEnglishvocabulary.Around56%ofthestudentspreferredtomemorizevocabulary,followedby36%ofstudentswhoprefertotranslatethewordintheirnativelanguage.However,vocabularylearningmethodssuchasusingcontext,creatingassociations,andusingvisualaidswereusedinfrequentlybystudents.
Discussion:
TheresultsofthisstudysuggestthatjuniorhighschoolstudentstendtorelyonmemorizationandtranslationstrategiestolearnEnglishvocabulary.Thesestrategies,whileuseful,areinsufficientforlong-termlearningandretentionofEnglishvocabulary.Memorizingvocabularyisessential,butusingthewordsincontextandunderstandingthemeaningsandusagesofwordsareequallyimportantforsustainedvocabularyretention.
Furthermore,thestudysuggeststhattheuseofcontextandvisualaidsinvocabularylearningshouldbepromotedmore.Teachersandeducatorsshouldemphasizetheuseofcontext,i.e.,integratingnewvocabularywordsintoreadingandwritingactivities.Additionally,theincorporationofvisualaids,suchasflashcards,pictures,andvideos,canalsobeeffectiveinhelpingstudentslearnandretainnewvocabularywords.
