BenefitsofMetacognitiveStrategies: SeveralstudieshaveprovidedevidenceofthepositiveimpactofmetacognitivestrategiesonEnglishreadingcomprehension.Forinstance,astudybyZhangandWu(2017)foundthatexplicitlyteachingmetacognitivestrategiessignificantlyimprovedstudents'readingcomprehensionskills.Theparticipants'abilitytopredict,summarize,andevaluatetextseffectivelywasenhanced,leadingtoimprovedoverallcomprehension.Theseresultsunderlinetheeffectivenessofmetacognitivestrategiesinfacilitatingreadingcomprehension. Moreover,metacognitivestrategieshelplearnersbecomemoreautonomousreaders.Throughtheuseoftechniqueslikeself-questioningandself-monitoring,learnersbecomeengagedinthereadingprocess,takeownershipoftheirlearning,anddeveloptheabilitytoregulatetheircomprehensionefforts.AstudybyAndersonandRoit(2019)investigatedtheimpactofmetacognitivestrategyinstructiononreadingperformanceandfoundthatstudentswhoreceivedexplicitmetacognitiveinstructionperformedsignificantlybetterthanthosewhodidnot.Thissuggeststhatmetacognitivestrategiespromoteindependentandeffectivereadingpractices.
