Introduction:
Intoday'sglobalizedworld,effectivecommunicationacrosscultureshasbecomeincreasinglyimportant.AsEnglishmajorgraduatestudents,itiscrucialtodevelopcross-culturalsensitivitytoeffectivelyinteractwithpeoplefromdiversebackgrounds.Thisstudyexplorestheimpactofinterculturalcommunicationcoursesonthecross-culturalsensitivityofEnglishmajorgraduatestudents.
Cross-culturalSensitivity:
Cross-culturalsensitivityreferstotheabilitytorecognize,understand,andappreciateculturaldifferences,andadjustone'sbehaviorsandattitudesaccordingly.Itinvolvesbeingopen-minded,respectful,andresponsivetoculturaldiversity,allowingindividualstoengageineffectivecommunicationacrosscultures.
TheImportanceofInterculturalCommunicationCourses:
Interculturalcommunicationcoursesplayasignificantroleinenhancingcross-culturalsensitivityamongEnglishmajorgraduatestudents.Thesecoursesprovidetheoreticalknowledgeandpracticalskillsthatenablestudentstoacquireinterculturalcompetence.Theycreateopportunitiesforstudentstolearnaboutdifferentcultures,interactwithindividualsfromdiversebackgrounds,andimprovetheirculturalawareness.
Methods:
Toinvestigatetheimpactofinterculturalcommunicationcoursesoncross-culturalsensitivity,amixed-methodsresearchdesignwasemployed.AquestionnairesurveywasconductedamongEnglishmajorgraduatestudentsbeforeandafterthecourse.Additionally,focusgroupinterviewswereconductedtogatherqualitativedata.
Results:
Thefindingsrevealedapositiveimpactofinterculturalcommunicationcoursesonthecross-culturalsensitivityofEnglishmajorgraduatestudents.Thepre-coursesurveyindicatedthatstudentshadamoderatelevelofcross-culturalsensitivity.However,thepost-coursesurveyshowedasignificantimprovementintheircross-culturalsensitivitylevels.
Specifically,therewasanenhancementinstudents'knowledgeofculturaldifferences,theirawarenessandappreciationofdiversity,andtheirabilitytoadapttheirbehavior
