Abstract:
WiththegrowingimportanceofEnglishasagloballanguage,non-EnglishmajorstudentsarefacingchallengesinacquiringEnglishreadingskills.ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatethecurrentEnglishreadingstrategiesusedbynon-Englishmajorstudentsandprovideempiricalevidencethroughtrainingprogramstoimprovetheirreadingabilities.Thestudycollecteddatathroughsurveysandanalyzedtheresultsusingstatisticalanalysistechniques.Thestudyconcludedthatnon-Englishmajorstudentsneedmorehelpwithdevelopingtheirreadingstrategies,andtrainingprogramscansignificantlyimprovetheirreadingabilitiesandacademicperformanceinEnglish.
Introduction:
Englishhasbecomethedominantlanguageintheworld,anditisessentialforglobalcommunicationandcommerce.Hence,learningEnglishhasbecomemandatoryfornon-nativespeakers.However,non-EnglishmajorstudentsoftenfacedifficultiesinacquiringEnglishreadingskills.ReadingisanessentialcomponentofEnglishlanguagelearning,anditischallengingfornon-EnglishmajorstudentstodeveloptheirEnglishreadingstrategies.
ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatethecurrentEnglishreadingstrategiesusedbynon-Englishmajorstudentsandprovideempiricalevidencethroughtrainingprogramstoimprovetheirreadingabilities.ThestudywillhelpinidentifyingtheareaswherestudentsneedmorehelpandsuggesttrainingprogramsthatcanimprovetheirEnglishreadingstrategiestoachieveacademicsuccess.
Methodology:
Thestudycollecteddatathroughsurveysadministeredtoagroupofnon-Englishmajorstudents.Thesurveyquestionnaireconsistedofopen-endedandclosed-endedquestions.Thesurveycollectedinformationonthestudents'demographics,theirEnglishreadingbehavior,andtheircurrentreadingstrategies.
Dataanalysiswasconductedusingstatisticalanalysistechniquestodeterminethemeans,standarddeviations,frequencies,andpercentagesofthedatacollectedthroughthesurveyquestionnaires.Thestudyemployeddescriptivestatisticstoanalyzethedataandinferentialstatisticstoestablishtherelationshipbetweenthevariables.
Results:
Thestudyfoundthatnon-EnglishmajorstudentslackedproperEnglishreadingstrate
