Introduction: Readingcomprehensionisafundamentalskillrequiredforacademicsuccess,andhighschoolstudentsneedtodevelopproficiencyinunderstandingvariousformsoftexts.Withtheadvancementoftechnology,studentsencounternon-sequentialtextsmorefrequentlyintheirdailylives,suchaswebsites,socialmediaposts,andmultimediapresentations.Non-lineartextspresentinformationinanon-sequentialmanner,requiringreaderstomakeconnectionsanddrawconclusionsindependently.However,manyhighschoolstudentsstrugglewithcomprehendingsuchtextsduetotheirunfamiliaritywiththisformat.Thisstudyaimstoexplorethefactorsaffectingnon-lineartextreadingabilityamonghighschoolstudentsinEnglishandproposestrategiesforimprovement. LiteratureReview: Previousstudieshaveindicatedthatnon-lineartextreadingabilityiscloselyrelatedtoseveralfactors,includingpriorknowledge,cognitiveflexibility,andreadingstrategies.Studentswithlimitedpriorknowledgeonaparticulartopicmightfinditchallengingtounderstandnon-lineartextsastheylackthenecessarybackgroundinformationtomakeconnections.Cognitiveflexibility,whichreferstotheabilitytoswitchbetweendifferentperspectivesandmakementaladjustments,iscrucialforcomprehendingnon-lineartexts.Additionally,effectivereadingstrategiessuchastextannotation,summarizing,andusinggraphicorganizershavebeenfoundtoenhancereadingcomprehensioninnon-lineartexts.
