Abstract
TheaimofthispaperistoexploretheimportanceofcultivatingmultidimensionalreadingabilitiesinhighschoolEnglishreadinginstruction.WiththeadvancementoftechnologyandtherapiddevelopmentoftheInternet,readinghasbecomeanessentialskillforstudentstoacquireinformationandknowledge.However,traditionalreadinginstructionoftenfocusessolelyoncomprehensionskills,neglectingthedevelopmentofothercrucialreadingabilitiessuchascriticalthinking,culturalunderstanding,andinferentialskills.ThispaperarguesthathighschoolEnglishreadinginstructionshouldadoptamultidimensionalapproachtoeffectivelycultivatestudents'readingabilitiesandpromotetheiroveralllanguageproficiency.
Introduction
Readingisoneoftheessentiallanguageskillsthatstudentsneedtodevelopforacademicandlifelongsuccess.Withtheincreasingavailabilityofinformationandtheaccelerationofglobalization,theabilitytoreadandunderstandvarioustextshasbecomecrucial.However,traditionalreadinginstructioninhighschooloftenfocusesoncomprehensionskillsalone.Itfailstoaddresstheintricateaspectsofreading,suchascriticalthinking,culturalunderstanding,inferentialskills,andintertextualanalysis.Asaresult,students'readingabilitiesareoftenlimitedandfailtodevelopfully.ThispaperarguesthathighschoolEnglishreadinginstructionshouldadoptamultidimensionalapproachtoeffectivelycultivatestudents'readingabilitiesandpromotetheiroveralllanguageproficiency.
