Abstract:
Inthisstudy,numericalexperimentswereconductedtoinvestigatethehydrodynamiccharacteristicsoftandemcircularcylindersinauniformflowfield.Theaimwastounderstandtheflowpatterns,wakestructures,andrelevantparametersaffectingtheflowbehaviorbetweenthecylinders.Thesimulationswereperformedusingcomputationalfluiddynamics(CFD)techniques,employingtheReynolds-averagedNavier-Stokes(RANS)equationsalongwiththek-εturbulencemodel.Theresultsobtainedfromthesimulationsprovideinsightsintotheflowfieldaroundthecylinders,sheddinglightontheimportantfactorsinfluencingthehydrodynamicinteractionsintandemconfigurations.Thesefindingscancontributetothedesignandoptimizationofstructuresexposedtofluidflows,suchasoffshoreplatforms,cables,andbridgepiers.
1.Introduction
Theinteractionbetweenfluidandbodieshasbeenasubjectofimmenseinterestinvariousengineeringapplications.Tandemcircularcylindersareacommonlyencounteredconfigurationinmultipleareas,suchascivil,mechanical,andoffshoreengineering.Understandingthehydrodynamiccharacteristicsoftandemcircularcylindersiscrucialforachievingoptimaldesignandperformanceofstructuressubjecttofluidflows.Thisstudyaimstoinvestigatetheflowbehavior,wakestructure,andotherrelevantparametersinfluencingthehydrodynamicsoftandemcircularcylindersinauniformflowfield.
2.Methodology
2.1GoverningEquations
TheReynolds-averagedNavier-Stokes(RANS)equationsweresolvednumericallytosimulatethefluidflow.Theseequationsdescribethetime-averagedconservationofmass,momentum,andenergyforincompressibleflows.Thek-εturbulencemodelwasselectedasaclosuremodelforturbulenteddyviscosity.
2.2NumericalModel
Tocarryoutthenumericalexperiments,acomputationaldomainwascreatedinathree-dimensionalCartesiancoordinatesystem.Thetandemcircularcylinderswereplacedinthisdomain.Thediameterratio,spacingratio,andReynoldsnumberwerechosenasthemaingeometricparameters,andtheireffectsontheflowcharacterist
