Abstract:
ThispaperstudiesthefatiguecrackpropagationbehaviorofmultipledamagedLY12CZaluminumalloyreinforcementplatesundercyclicloading.Aseriesofexperimentswereconductedonspecimenswithvariouslevelsofdamage,includingsinglecracks,edgenotches,andmultiplecracks.Theresultsshowedthatthefatiguelifeofthereinforcementplateswithmultiplecrackswassignificantlylowerthanthatofthespecimenswithsinglecracksoredgenotches.Thecrackpropagationwasfoundtobeaffectedbytheorientationofthecracksandtheirspacing.Additionally,thestressintensityfactorandcrackpropagationratewerecalculatedusingtheParislawequation.TheresultsofthisstudycanprovidevaluableinsightsfordesigningmoredurableLY12CZaluminumalloyreinforcementplates.
Introduction:
Aluminumalloyreinforcementplates,widelyusedinvariousindustrialapplications,aresubjectedtocyclicloadingduringtheirservicelife.Thefatiguedamageaccumulatedduringcyclicloadingcancausedegradationofthemechanicalpropertiesandultimatelyleadtofailure.Itisthereforeimportanttostudythefatiguecrackpropagationbehaviorofaluminumalloyreinforcementplatestoensuretheirreliabilityandlongevity.ThispaperreportsonthefatiguecrackpropagationbehaviorofmultipledamagedLY12CZaluminumalloyreinforcementplatesundercyclicloading.
ExperimentalMethod:
TheLY12CZaluminumalloyreinforcementplatesusedinthisstudyhadathicknessof3mmandwerecutintorectangularspecimenswithalengthof80mmandawidthof12.5mm.Threetypesofdamagewereintroducedintothespecimens:singlecracks,edgenotches,andmultiplecracks.Thesinglecrackspecimenshadawidthof0.3mm,whiletheedgenotchspecimenshadanotchwidthof1.0mm.Themultiplecrackspecimenshadtwoorthreecracksof0.3mmwidth.Thedistancebetweenthecracksinthemultiplecrackspecimenswaseither5mmor10mm.Thespecimenswereloadedunderconstantamplitudecyclicloadingwithastressratioof0.1.
ResultsandDiscussion:
ThefatiguelifeofthespecimenswascalculatedusingtheS-Nmethod.Theresultsshowedthatthereinforcementpla
