Introduction
Intheworldofwirelesscommunications,theC-X-Kufrequencybandhasgainedsignificantpopularityduetoitswideapplicationsinvariousfields,includingsatellitecommunications,radarsystems,navigationsystems,andmore.However,acrucialcomponentofthesesystemsisawidebandpoweramplifierthatcanamplifythesignalsacrossthisfrequencyrange.Inthispaper,wewilldiscussthedesignandimplementationofawidebandpoweramplifierfortheC-X-Kufrequencyband.
DesignConsiderations
TheC-X-Kufrequencybandrangesfrom3.7GHzto15.4GHz.Therefore,awidebandpoweramplifiermustoperateacrossthisfrequencyrangetoamplifythesignalseffectively.Additionally,asthesignalstransmittedandreceivedinthisfrequencybandaresensitiveandweak,thepoweramplifiermustalsohavealownoisefiguretoavoidsignaldegradationandprovidesufficientgaintoensuresuccessfultransmissionandreception.Moreover,aClassAorClassABamplifieroperatinginthelinearrangeispreferredtomaintainsignalqualityacrossthefrequencyband.Additionally,toensurestabilityandreliability,theamplifiershouldhaveastableoperatingpointandprotectioncircuitstopreventanydamage,makingthedesignprocessmorechallenging.
Implementation
Tomeettherequirementsmentionedabove,wehavedesignedawidebandpoweramplifierusingthefollowingsteps:
1.SelectingActiveDevices:Weselectedtransistor2N2222,whichisalow-costbipolarjunctiontransistor(BJT)withgoodhigh-frequencyperformance,lownoisefigure,andgainforoperatingfrequencieswithintheC-X-Kuband.
2.BiasingCircuit:Astablebiasingcircuitshouldprovideastableoperatingpointtotheamplifier.Atypicalbiasingcircuitusedinmostdevicesisthevoltagedividerbiasingcircuit.Weusedthesamecircuitwithavoltagedropof10Vandaresistanceof4.7kΩ.
3.AmplifierCircuitDesign:WehavedesignedanRFamplifiercircuitwiththetransistor2N2222.ThecircuitisaclassABamplifierwithagainof12dBandacutofffrequencyof15.4GHz,coveringtheentireC-X-Kuband.Theamplifiercircuitconsistsofaninputmatchingnetwork,anoutputmatchingnetwork,andafeedbacknetwork.ThematchingnetworksaredesignedusingSmithchartandtransmissionli
