Introduction
Fractureanalysisisanessentialtaskinunderstandingmaterialbehaviorandpredictingthelifespanofastructure.Inrecentyears,thecomplexityofmaterialmicrostructureshasincreased,makingtheuseoftraditionalmodelslimitedintheireffectiveness.Forthisreason,innovativemulti-levelmodelsthatcananalyzethebehaviorofamaterialatdifferentscaleshavebeendeveloped.Thesemodelscanprovidemoreaccuratepredictionsoffracturebehaviorandhelpidentifythecausesofmaterialfailure.
ComplexMicrostructures
Complexmicrostructuresrefertoamaterial'sinternalstructureatthemicroscopiclevel.Thematerial'sbehavioratthisscaleisdeterminedbyitscomposition,crystalstructure,grainsize,anddistribution.Thedistributionofthesemicrostructuralelementscanhaveasignificantimpactonthematerial'sfracturebehavior.Forinstance,amaterialwithauniformmicrostructuremaybehavedifferentlywhencomparedtoamaterialwithlocalizedvariationsinitsinternalstructure.Therefore,thecharacterizationofamaterial'smicrostructureisacrucialstepinpredictingitsfracturebehavior.
