Abstract:
Theaimofthisstudywastoinvestigatetheultimatebearingcapacityofreinforcedconcretedumbbell-shapedcolumnsunderaxialcompressionusingfiniteelementanalysis.Theanalysiswasperformedtoevaluatethestructuralbehaviorofthecolumnsanddeterminethefactorsaffectingtheirultimatebearingcapacity.Theresultsfromthefiniteelementanalysisprovidevaluableinsightsintothestructuralperformanceofthecolumnsandcanbeusedtooptimizetheirdesignforbetterload-carryingcapacity.
Introduction:
Reinforcedconcretecolumnsarewidelyusedinvariousstructuralsystemsduetotheirhighstrengthanddurability.Theultimatebearingcapacityofthesecolumnsisacriticalfactorinassessingthestabilityandsafetyoftheentirestructure.Thegeometricshapeofthecolumnplaysavitalroleinitsload-carryingcapacity,asdifferentshapesdistributetheloaddifferentlythroughthecolumn'scross-section.Thedumbbell-shapedcolumnisanovelconfigurationthatofferspotentialadvantagesintermsofbetterloaddistribution,reducedmaterialusage,andenhancedstructuralperformance.
Methodology:
Finiteelementanalysis(FEA)wasemployedtosimulatethebehaviorofthedumbbell-shapedcolumnunderaxialcompression.TheANSYSsoftwarepackagewasusedtomodelandanalyzethecolumn'sstructuralresponse.Theconcretematerialwasmodeledusingalinearelastic-perfectlyplasticmodel,whilethereinforcingsteelbarsweretreatedaslinearelastic.Thecolumn'scross-section,materialproperties,andloadingconditionswereconsideredintheFEAmodeltoaccuratelysimulateitsbehaviorunderaxialcompression.
ResultsandDiscussion:
TheFEAresultsrevealedimportantinsightsintothebehaviorofthedumbbell-shapedcolumnunderaxialcompression.Theanalysisconsidereddifferentcolumndimensions,concretestrengths,andreinforcementratiostostudytheirinfluenceontheultimatebearingcapacity.Thestressdistributionalongthecolumn'scross-sectionwasexaminedtoidentifyareasofhighstressconcentrationandpotentialfailuremodes.Theresultsindicatedthat
