Inthefieldofcomputerscienceandtechnology,researchpapersplayacrucialroleinknowledgedisseminationandacademiccommunication.Abstracts,ascondensedsummariesofthesepapers,serveasthefirstpointofcontactforthereaders.ThispaperaimstoanalyzeandcomparethegenrefeaturesofabstractsincomputerscienceandtechnologyresearchpaperswritteninEnglish,withafocusonbothdomestic(Chinese)andforeignliterature,inordertoprovideinsightsintothesimilaritiesanddifferencesbetweenthetwo.
Methodology:
Toconductthisstudy,acorpusofcomputerscienceandtechnologyresearchpaperabstractswascollectedfromvarioussources,includingacademicjournals,conferences,andonlinedatabases.Thecorpuswasdividedintotwocategories:Chineseliteratureandforeignliterature.Thegenrefeaturesoftheabstractswereanalyzedbasedonthreeaspects:macro-structure,linguisticfeatures,andrhetoricstrategies.
Results:
1.Macro-structure:
BothChineseandforeignabstractsgenerallyadheretotheclassicIMRD(Introduction,Methods,Results,andDiscussion)structure.However,Chineseabstractstendtohavealongerintroductionandmethodssectioncomparedtoforeignabstracts,whichfocusmoreonresultsanddiscussion.
2.LinguisticFeatures:
Foreignabstractspreferconciseandclearlanguage,withahighdegreeofgrammaticalandlexicalcohesion.Chineseabstracts,ontheotherhand,tendtobemoreverboseandincludeextensiveuseofdomain-specificterminology.
3.RhetoricStrategies:
Chineseabstractsfrequentlyadoptanarrativestyle,providingadetailedaccountoftheresearchprocess.Incontrast,foreignabstractstendtofocusonthemainfindingsandcontributionsoftheresearch.
Discussion:
