Abstract
Inthepresentstudy,theimpactofverticalretainingwallsonthedynamicresponseoffixed-supportedrectangularplatessubjectedtoblastloadshasbeeninvestigated.ThefiniteelementmethodwasemployedtomodeltheproblemusingANSYSsoftware.Thestudyconsideredtheeffectsofdifferentwallheights,distancesfromtheplate,andplatethicknesses.Theresultsshowedthatthepresenceofthewallsignificantlyinfluencedthedynamicresponseoftheplate,causinganincreaseindisplacementandstressconcentration.Moreover,itwasfoundthatwallheightanddistancefromtheplatehadasignificanteffectonthedynamicresponseoftheplate.Finally,thestudyconcludedthatretainingwallscouldbeusedtoimprovethestructuralintegrityofbuildingssubjectedtoblastloads.
Introduction
Theuseofexplosivestoinduceacontrolledcollapseofbuildingsortodestroytargetshasbecomeacommonoccurrenceinrecenttimes.Sincethestructuralintegrityofbuildingsiscritical,itisimperativetodesignstructuresthatcanwithstandtheeffectsofexplosiveloads.Retainingwallsareoftenusedasprotectivedevicestomitigatetheeffectsofblastloads.Theyarestructuresthataredesignedtoholdbacksoilandpreventitfromslidingoreroding.Inaddition,retainingwallscanalsobeusedtoprotectstructuresfromlandslidedebris,soilerosion,andothernaturaldisasters.
Inrecentyears,numerousstudieshavebeenconductedtoinvestigatethedynamicresponseofstructuressubjectedtoblastloads.Severalparameters,suchasthedistancefromtheblast,thesizeoftheexplosivedevice,andthestructuralconfiguration,havebeeninvestigated.However,theeffectofretainingwallsonthedynamicresponseofstructuressubjectedtoblastloadshasnotbeenthoroughlyinvestigated.Therefore,inthepresentstudy,theeffectofverticalretainingwallsonthedynamicresponseoffixed-supportedrectangularplatessubjectedtoblastloadshasbeeninvestigated.
Methodology
