Abstract
Inthispaper,theultra-high-speedimpactpropertiesofAlMgimpedancegradientmaterialreinforcedWhipplestructurewerestudied.TheWhipplestructureiswidelyusedinspacecraftprotectionduetoitsexcellentimpactresistance,butitsperformanceislimitedunderhigh-speedimpact.Toaddressthisissue,anAlMgimpedancegradientmaterialwasintroducedasareinforcementtotheWhipplestructuretoimproveitsimpactresistance.Theimpactresistanceperformancewasevaluatedbysimulation,experiment,andanalysis.TheresultsshowedthattheAlMgimpedancegradientmaterialreinforcedWhipplestructurehadexcellentimpactresistanceperformanceunderultra-high-speedimpact.Thefindingsofthisstudyprovideareferenceforthedesignanddevelopmentofhigh-speedimpact-resistantstructures.
Introduction
Withthedevelopmentofspacetechnology,theprotectionofspaceshipsfromdebrisisbecomingincreasinglyimportant.TheWhipplestructure,whichwasinventedbyFredWhipple,iswidelyusedinspacecrafttoprotectagainsthigh-speedimpacts.Thebasicstructureconsistsoftwothinmetalsheetssimilartoasandwich,withagapbetweenthem.TheWhipplestructureusestheconceptoftheinelasticdeformationofthethinmetalsheettodispersetheimpactenergyinthegap,whichachievesexcellentimpactresistance.However,theperformanceoftheWhipplestructureislimitedunderultra-high-speedimpact,anditisnecessarytointroducereinforcementstoimproveitsimpactresistanceperformance.
Impedancegradientmaterialisamaterialwithagradientchangeinthemechanicalimpedancedistribution,whichcaneffectivelyreducethereflectedstresswavesduringimpactattenuation.Ithasbeenwidelyusedinthefieldofimpactresistance.Inthispaper,theAlMgimpedancegradientmaterialwasintroducedasareinforcementtotheWhipplestructure,andtheimpactresistanceperformanceofthereinforcedstructurewasinvestigated.
Methodology
TostudytheimpactresistanceperformanceoftheAlMgimpedancegradientmaterialreinforcedWhipplestructure,simulation,experiment,andanalysiswereconductedasfollows.
