Abstract:
Desertification,asignificantglobalenvironmentalissue,canhavesevereconsequencesonecosystemsandsocio-economicdevelopment.Tocombatdesertificationeffectively,monitoringprogramsareessentialtoassesstheextentandseverityoftheproblem.ThisstudyaimstoexploretheapplicationofArcGISinthesixthdesertificationmonitoringprogram,usingYantaiCityasacasestudy.TheresearchhighlightstheroleofGIStechnologyincollecting,analyzing,andvisualizingspatialdata,whichhelpsinunderstandingandmanagingdesertificationeffectively.
1.Introduction
Desertificationisacomplexprocessresultingfromvariousenvironmentalfactors,includingclimatechange,landusepractices,andhumanactivities.Itiscrucialtomonitorandevaluatetheextentofdesertificationregularlytodevelopsustainablestrategiesforitspreventionandmanagement.Inrecentyears,GeographicInformationSystem(GIS)technology,particularlyArcGIS,hasgainedpopularityinassessingandmonitoringdesertificationduetoitscapabilitiesinspatialdataanalysisandvisualization.
2.Methodology
ThesixthdesertificationmonitoringprograminYantaiCityinvolvedthefollowingsteps:
a.DataCollection:Varioustypesofdata,includingremotesensingimagery,topographicmaps,climatedata,andvegetationindices,werecollectedfromdifferentsourcesandintegratedintotheGISdatabase.
