Abstract:
Buildingroofpointcloudsegmentationplaysacrucialroleinvariousapplications,suchasurbanplanning,3Dmodeling,andarchitecturalanalysis.ThispaperpresentsanovelapproachtosegmentbuildingroofpointcloudsbycombiningtheScale-InvariantFeatureTransform(SIFT)algorithmwiththe3DHoughTransform.TheproposedmethodaimstoleveragethecomplementarystrengthsofSIFT'sfeaturedetectionanddescriptioncapabilitiesandtheHoughTransform'srobustnesstoeffectivelyseparatebuildingroofsfromthesurroundingenvironment.Experimentalresultsdemonstratethattheproposedmethodachievesaccurateandefficientbuildingroofsegmentation,providingavaluabletoolforurbanlandscapeanalysisandarchitecturalapplications.

1.Introduction
Inrecentyears,theavailabilityof3Dpointclouddatahasgreatlyfacilitatedtheanalysisandmodelingofurbanlandscapesandbuildings.Buildingroofsegmentationisafundamentaltaskinsuchapplicationssinceitenablesaccuratereconstructionandanalysisofbuildings.However,duetothecomplexityofurbanenvironmentsandthepresenceofocclusions,automaticandreliablebuildingroofsegmentationremainsachallengingproblem.ThispaperpresentsacombinedmethodoftheScale-InvariantFeatureTransform(SIFT)algorithmandthe3DHoughTransformforaccurateandefficientbuildingroofpointcloudsegmentation.
2.RelatedWork
Severalapproacheshavebeenproposedforbuildingroofsegmentationinpointclouddata.Traditionalmethodsrelyongeometricfeatures,suchasplanarity,slope,andheightdifferences,toseparateroofsfromnon-roofstructures.However,thesemethodsoftenstrugglewithcomplexroofshapesandocclusions.Toaddressthesechallenges,recentstudieshaveexploredtheuseoffeature-basedtechniques,suchasSIFTandHoughTransform.However,thesemethodsaretypicallyappliedindependently,overlookingthepotentialbenefitsofcombiningtheirstrengths.
