Abstract:
TheaimofthispaperistostudytheionosphericeffectsofearthquakesinChinausingGround-BasedGlobalPositioningSystemTotalElectronContent(GPS-TEC)measurements.Earthquakesarenaturaldisastersthatcangeneratesignificantdisturbancesinthelowerionosphereregion,leadingtovariationsintheelectrondensity.TheGPS-TECtechniqueprovidesauniqueopportunitytoinvestigatetheseeffectsbyquantifyingthetotalelectroncontentalongthesignalpathfromGPSsatellitestoground-basedreceivers.Thispaperpresentsacomprehensivereviewofthescientificliteraturerelatedtoearthquake-inducedionosphericdisturbances,followedbyananalysisoftheGPS-TECdataobtainedduringaselectionofnotableearthquakesinChina.Theresultssuggestthatearthquake-inducedionosphericdisturbancesexhibitdistinctfeaturesintermsoftime,spatialdistribution,andmagnitude,whichcanpotentiallyserveasindicatorsforearthquakemonitoringandearlywarningsystems.

Earthquakesareamongthemostdevastatingnaturaldisasters,resultinginhumancasualtiesandinfrastructuredamage.Understandingtheprecursorsandprecursor-relatedphenomenaassociatedwithearthquakesiscrucialforearthquakepredictionandmitigationefforts.Theionosphere,particularlythelowerionosphere,hasbeenidentifiedasoneofthepotentialsourcesofprecursorsignalsfordetectingearthquakes.
1.2Objective
TheobjectiveofthisstudyistoinvestigatetheionosphericeffectsofearthquakesinChinausingGround-BasedGPS-TECmeasurements.TheresearchwillfocusonanalyzingtheGPS-TECdataobtainedduringsignificantearthquakesinChina,aimedatidentifyingdistinctivecharacteristicsofearthquake-inducedionosphericdisturbances.
