Background Theslabinquestionwasalevelslabandwasexperiencingexcessivedeflection,inducingsevereverticalcracks.Visualinspectionandpreliminarymeasurementssuggestedthatthecausewasinsufficientconcreteslabthickness,whichledtooverloading.Therefore,aseriesofloadtestingwasundertakentoevaluatethestrength,stiffness,anddurabilityoftheslabandtoidentifyanypotentialremedialworks.Theloadtestwascarriedoutusingastandardtestproceduretosimulatedifferentloadingconditionsandmeasurethedeflection,strain,andload. TestProcedure Todeterminetheloadingcapacityoftheslab,astep-by-stepprogressiveloadingtestwascarriedout.Theloadwasappliedinincrementsof1.5kN/m²usingahydraulicjackandmeasuredusingaloadcell.Thereadingswererecordedatintervalsof2minutesforatotalof10minutesforeachloadincrement.Aftereachloadincrement,thedeflectionwasmeasuredusingadigitallevelgauge.Theloadwasapplieduntilthedesiredloadwasachieved,orthedeflectionexceededtheacceptedlimit. ResultsandAnalysis Theinitialdeflectionunderself-weightwasmeasured,anditwasfoundthatexcessivedeflectionwasobserved,whichwasbeyondtheacceptablelimit.Theinitialdeflectionwas12.5mm,whichwashigherthantheallowablelimitof10mm.Thefirstloadof1.5kN/m²wasapplied,andthedeflectionincreasedto13.5mm,whichwasstillhigherthanthepermissiblelimit.Astheloadwasincreased,thedeflectionalsoincreased,andat20kN/m²,thedeflectionwas98mm,whichwasbeyondtheacceptablelimitandwasconsideredafailurepoint.
