Abstract:
ThispaperpresentsafiniteelementanalysisoftheinstallationofS-shapedunderwaterpipelines.TheS-shapedlayoutofpipelinesiscommonlyadoptedinunderwaterinstallationstoaccommodategeologicalobstaclesoroptimizethecost-effectivenessoftheproject.However,thisintricateconfigurationposeschallengesintermsofstructuralintegrity,stability,andsafety.Inordertoevaluatethebehaviorofthepipelineduringinstallationandoperation,anumericalsimulationbasedonthefiniteelementmethod(FEM)isconducted.Theobjectiveistoassessthestressdistribution,deformation,andstabilityofthepipeline,andprovidevaluableinsightsforpipelinedesignandinstallationinthemarineenvironment.
Introduction:
Underwaterpipelinesarecrucialforthetransportationofvariousresources,includingoil,gas,andwater.Theinstallationofpipelinesinmarineenvironmentsoftenencounterscomplexgeologicalconditions,suchasirregularseabedtopographyandgeologicalobstacles.Toovercomethesechallenges,anS-shapedlayoutisoftenemployedasitallowsthepipelinestonavigatearoundtheseobstacles,minimizingtheneedforcostlytrenchingorexcavation.However,theinstallationofS-shapedpipelinesintroducesadditionalcomplexitiesintermsofstressconcentrationandstability.Thus,itisnecessarytoanalyzethebehaviorofthepipelineduringinstallationandoperationtoensureitsstructuralintegrityandsafeoperation.
Methodology:
Thefiniteelementmethod(FEM)iswidelyusedforstructuralanalysisduetoitsabilitytosolvecomplexproblemsinvolvingnon-linearbehaviors,largedeformations,andmaterialheterogeneity.Inthisstudy,anumericalmodeloftheS-shapedunderwaterpipelinesystemisdevelopedusingFEMsoftware,suchasANSYSorABAQUS.Themodelincludesthepipeline,theseabed,andanyadditionalsupportsoranchoringsystems.Thepipelinematerialproperties,suchasYoung'smodulus,Poisson'sratio,andyieldstrength,areconsideredintheanalysis.Thepipelineisdiscretizedintoameshofelements,andappropriateboundaryconditionsareappliedtosimulatetheinstallationandoperationalconditions.
