Introduction:
Withurbanizationandpopulationgrowth,thereisanincreasingdemandforhousing.However,manycitiesarefacedwiththechallengeoflimitedavailablelandfornewconstruction.Consequently,therenovationandexpansionofoldmasonrybuildingshavebecomepopularalternativestomeetthehousingneeds.Inparticular,addingabottomfloortothesebuildingsisaneffectivewaytoincreasethelivingspacewhilemaintainingthearchitecturalintegrity.Thispaperaimstoexplorethevariousmethodsusedinthebottomflooradditionduringtherenovationofoldmasonrybuildings.
1.StructuralAssessment:
Beforeembarkingonabottomflooraddition,itiscrucialtoconductacomprehensivestructuralassessmentoftheexistingbuilding.Thisassessmentshouldevaluatetheload-bearingcapacityofthefoundation,thestabilityofthemasonrywalls,andtheoverallstructuralintegrity.Anyweaknessesorpotentialareasofconcernshouldbeidentifiedandaddressedtoensureasafeandsuccessfulrenovation.
