Title:AStudyontheMechanicalPropertiesofTDIBPOModifiedPBS
Abstract:
ThispaperpresentsastudyonthemechanicalpropertiesofTDIBPO(2,4-toluenediisocyanatebisphenol-basedpolyurethane)modifiedPBS(Poly(butylenesuccinate)).TheaimofthisstudyistoinvestigatetheeffectofTDIBPOmodificationonthetensilestrength,flexibility,andimpactresistanceofPBS.ThemodifiedPBSsampleswerepreparedbyblendingTDIBPOwithPBSusingameltblendingprocess.Themechanicalpropertiesofthemodifiedsampleswerethencharacterizedusingtensiletesting,flexuraltesting,andimpacttesting.TheresultsindicatethattheadditionofTDIBPOsignificantlyenhancesthemechanicalperformanceofPBS,makingitapotentialcandidateforvariousapplicationsrequiringimprovedmechanicalproperties.
1.Introduction:
Poly(butylenesuccinate)(PBS)isabiodegradablepolymerwithexcellentmechanicalproperties,chemicalresistance,andprocessability.However,PBSexhibitscertainlimitationsintermsoftensilestrength,flexibility,andimpactresistance.Therefore,thereisaneedformodifyingPBStoimproveitsmechanicalproperties.Onepotentialapproachisincorporatingamodifier,suchasTDIBPO,toenhancetheperformanceofPBS.Inthisstudy,theeffectofTDIBPOmodificationonthemechanicalpropertiesofPBSisinvestigated.
2.ExperimentalMethodology:
2.1MaterialPreparation:
PBSandTDIBPOwereblendedusingameltblendingprocess.DifferentweightratiosofTDIBPO(2%,5%,10%,and15%)wereaddedtoPBSandmixedusingatwin-screwextruder.Theresultingblendswerethenmoldedintosamplesusinganinjectionmoldingmachine.
2.2MechanicalPropertyCharacterization:
ThetensilestrengthofthemodifiedPBSsampleswasdeterminedusingauniversaltensiletestingmachine.Thesamplesweretestedataconstantcrossheadspeedof10mm/minuntilfailure.Theflexuralpropertieswerecharacterizedusingathree-pointbendingtest,andtheimpactresistancewasevaluatedusinganIzodimpacttester.
3.ResultsandDiscussion:
3.1TensileStrength:
TheadditionofTDIBPOtoPBSresultedinasignificantincreaseinthetensilestrength.AstheweightratioofTDIBPOincreased,thetensilestrengthimproved,demonstratingtheeffect
