Abstract:
WCDMA(WidebandCodeDivisionMultipleAccess)networksarewidelydeployedintoday'smobilecommunicationsystems.However,asthenumberofusersincreases,thenetworkfacesthechallengeofpilotpollution,whichreferstotheinterferencecausedbyexcessiveneighboringpilotsignals.ThispaperaimstoanalyzethecausesandimpactsofpilotpollutioninWCDMAnetworksandproposesoptimizationtechniquestomitigateitseffects.
Introduction:
Withtheexponentialgrowthinmobilesubscribers,thedemandforhigh-qualitymobilecommunicationserviceshasincreasedmulti-fold.Tomeetthesedemands,WCDMAtechnologyhasbeenadoptedinmobilenetworksduetoitsabilitytoprovidehighdataratesandsupportalargenumberofuserssimultaneously.However,asthenumberofusersandthedensityofbasestationsincrease,pilotpollutionbecomesacrucialissuethataffectsthenetworkperformanceanduserexperience.
CausesofPilotPollution:
1.Co-channelInterference:InWCDMAnetworks,multiplebasestationstransmitsignalsonthesamefrequencychannel.Ifthesesignalshaveoverlappingcoverageareas,theinter-cellinterferencecanoverloadthelimitedresourcesavailable,causingpilotpollution.
2.SoftHandovers:Softhandoveroccurswhenamobiledeviceissimultaneouslyconnectedtomultiplebasestations.Thisincreasesthenumberofpilotsignals,leadingtoincreasedinterference.
3.UnequalDistributionofUserEquipment(UE):IfaparticularbasestationiscongestedduetoexcessiveUEconnections,itcangeneratestrongerneighboringpilotsignals,therebypollutingtheneighboringcells.
ImpactsofPilotPollution:
1.DecreasedNetworkCapacity:Pilotpollutionleadstoanincreaseininterferenceandreducestheavailableresources,resultinginadecreaseinnetworkcapacity.Thisaffectsbothvoiceanddataservices,leadingtodroppedcalls,poorvoicequality,andreduceddatarates.
2.DegradedUserExperience:Pilotpollutioncauseshigherbiterrorratesandincreasedsignal-to-interferenceratio,resultinginpoorcallqualityandslowdataspeeds.Thisleadstodissatisfiedcustomersandpotentialchurn.
