Introduction:
TheShanghaiCooperationOrganization(SCO)hasemergedasasignificantregionalorganizationinEurasia,comprisingeightmemberstates.AstheSCOaimstostrengthencooperationinvariousspheressuchassecurity,trade,andculture,itisessentialtoexaminetheconstraintsonitsdevelopmentimposedbyotherinternationalorganizationsoperatingwithintheregion.ThispapercriticallyanalyzestheconstraintsfacedbytheSCOfromotherregionalorganizationssuchastheAssociationofSoutheastAsianNations(ASEAN),theEurasianEconomicUnion(EAEU),andtheCollectiveSecurityTreatyOrganization(CSTO).
1.ASEANandtheSCO:
ASEAN,awell-establishedregionalorganizationinSoutheastAsia,hascreatedanetworkofeconomicintegrationandenhancedcooperationamongitsmemberstates.ThecompetinginterestsandoverlappingmembershipsbetweenASEANandSCOmemberstatescreatechallengesfortheSCO'sdevelopment.Despiteeffortstoenhancecooperation,divergentprioritiesofASEANmemberstatesundermineSCO'sprogressinareassuchaseconomicintegration,connectivity,andregionalsecurity.ASEAN'sfocusonSoutheastAsialimitstheSCO'spotentialoutreach,particularlytothecountriesinthisregion,thusconstrainingitsregionalinfluence.
2.EAEUandtheSCO:
TheEAEU,consistingoffivememberstatesincludingRussiaandKazakhstan,aimstofosterregionaleconomicintegration.However,theoverlappingmembershipsofSCOandEAEUmemberstatessometimescomplicatestheircooperation.Despiteinitiativesforcooperationbetweenthetwoorganizations,theirdifferentmembershipconfigurationsandobjectivespresentchallenges.TheEAEU'sfocusoneconomicintegrationandtradeconflictswiththeSCO'sbroadersecurityandpoliticalagenda.Asaresult,thedevelopmentoftheSCO'seconomicintegrationinitiatives,suchastheSCODevelopmentBankandtheSCOFreeTradeArea,canfaceconstraintsduetotheEAEU'scompetinginterests.
