TheKnowledgeDeploymentMechanisminTechnology-Based
TeamsofSMEs:AnIntegratedPerspective

Abstract:Numerousstudieshavediscussedindividual-leveland
organization-levelabsorptivecapacityregardedasakeypowerforSMEs
growingsustainablyandacquiringcompetitiveedge,neglectingtoconstruct
thebridgethathowteamsinSMEsdeploynew-obtainedknowledgeinan
efficientwaytotransferthisresourcesintoinnovationperformance
substantiallyandthemechanismisseemlyambiguous.Builtuponand
comparedwithabsorptivecapacitytheoryandrelatedliterature,thispaper
intendstoaddressthefollowingissues:(1)distinguishthesimilaritiesand
differencesbetweenconceptsofknowledgeabsorptivecapacity,knowledge
integration,knowledgeallocation,knowledgedistributionetc.withknowledge
deployment,(2)buildapossibleconceptualframeworktodiscussthe
knowledgedeploymentmechanismintechnology-basedteams,(3)list
possibleinnovationpointsandchallengesofresearchpractically.

1Introduction
Innovativenewproductsandabletoresponsetomarketchanges
positivelyarefirmlyconsideredaskeystosurvivalandcontinuoussuccessfor
technology-basedandnewproduct-orientedteamsinSMEsinahighly
competitivemarketenvironment.Increasinglystudieshavepointedout
individualandorganizationalabsorptivecapacity(ACAP)equippedbySMEs
willeffectivelyacquireenoughnew,external,decodedknowledge,technology,
evenhumanresourceswhohavetheseandeventuallyproducehigh
innovationperformanceandotherpositiveoutcomesowingtoitssmallness
andnewness.However,someuncertainandoverlookedpartsofthese
studiesneedtobere-consideredandre-discussedclearlywithinanew
framework.
First,TeamsinSMEswilloccasionallyencounterknowledgespillover,
knowledgesurplusandknowledgeoutdatedevenafterabsorbingenough
relevantknowledgeoutsidebecauseoftask-knowledge'sdynamic
inadaptabilitysuchasteammembers'mutualtemporalconflictbehaviorally
andmutualknowledgeincoordinationcognitively.Theseuntouchedproblems
canresultfromtwopossibleaspects:(1)duringknowledgeusagepro
