Abstract—Withasmallamountofsoftwaremodiﬁcation,supportingbitratesupto11Mbps.Twomorerecentstandards,
wirelessExtensionPoints(EPs),whicharenowcommerciallyIEEE802.11aand802.11g,whicharebasedonOrthogonal
available,canbeusedtoimprovethethroughputcapacityofaFrequencyDivisionMultiplexing(OFDM),arecapableof
WirelessLocalAreaNetwork(WLAN).AnEPisanimmobile
devicethathasaccesstothepowersupplyorisequippedwithsupportingupto54Mbpsdatarates.Theincreaseinbitrateis
ahighcapacitybatterybutdoesnothavedirectaccesstotheheavilymotivatedbythedemandforcontent-richweb-based
Internet.TheyrelaydatawirelesslybetweentheAccessPointapplications.Forbothreal-timeandnon-realtimeapplications,
(AP)andthemobilehosts.Inthispaper,weinvestigatethetheuserdataraterequirementshaveincreaseddramaticallyin
optimalplacementofEPssuchthatthethroughputcapacityrecentyears.Tosatisfytheincreasingdemandofmobileusers,
ofanurbanrectilinealWLANcanbemaximized.Twochannel
modelsarestudied,basedontheShannoncapacityboundandnewstrategiesareneededtoimprovetheperformanceofthe
IEEE802.11speciﬁcations.WeﬁrstformulateasolutionfortheWLANtechnologies.Themainobjectiveofthisworkisto
optimalEPplacementprobleminageneralnetworkscenarioasincreasetheaveragebitratebetweentheaccesspointandthe
anon-linearprogrammingproblem,thenweproposeanefﬁcientmobilehost.
