Arteducationhasbecomeanincreasinglyimportantpartofhighschooleducationinrecentyears.Itiswell-knownthatartisticexpressioncaninspirecreativity,promoteemotionalwell-being,andprovideindividualswithasenseofaccomplishment.Englishlanguagelearningisalsoacriticalaspectofhighschooleducation,asEnglishisthegloballanguageofcommunication.Therefore,itisessentialtounderstandthemotivationofhighschoolartstudentsinEnglishlanguagelearning.
ResearchQuestions
Thisreportaimstoinvestigatethefollowingquestions:
1.WhatmotivateshighschoolartstudentstolearnEnglish?
2.WhatarethechallengesfacedbyhighschoolartstudentsinlearningEnglish?
3.HowcanteacherssupportandenhancethemotivationofhighschoolartstudentstolearnEnglish?
LiteratureReview
Severalstudieshaveinvestigatedthemotivationofhighschoolstudentstolearnasecondlanguage.AccordingtoDeciandRyan'sSelf-DeterminationTheory(SDT),intrinsicmotivationisakeydeterminantoflearningsuccessandretention.Itisimportanttonotethat,fromanSDTperspective,motivationisnotonlyaboutinterest,butalsoabouttheneedforcompetence,autonomy,andrelatedness.
Researchhasidentifiedseveralfactorsthatinfluencemotivationforsecondlanguagelearninginhighschoolstudents.Theseincludeparentalsupport,interestinthetargetculture,theperceivedusefulnessofthelanguage,teachersupport,andintrinsicmotivation.Itisalsoessentialtonotetheroleofanxiety,languagedifficulty,andnegativefeedbackfrompeersandteachersasmotivationalbarriers.
Methodology
Thisresearchwillemployamixed-methodsapproach.AquestionnairewillbedistributedtohighschoolartstudentsaimedatidentifyingthemotivationandchallengesinEnglishlanguagelearning.Thequestionnairewillconsistofbothclosed-endedandopen-endedquestions.
Inaddition,aninterviewwillbeconductedwithasampleofstudentstogathermorein-depthandqualitativeinsightsintotheirmotivationandchallenges.Theinterviewwillalsoexploreideasforhowtoenhancestudentmotivationinlanguagelearning.
