虚拟语气是一种特殊的动词形式，主要用法有两种：一是用来表示说话人所说的话不是一个事实，而是一种假设、猜测、怀疑等；一是表示说话人的愿望、要求、命令、建议等。

1、虚拟语气在非真实条件句中
虚拟条件句主句与现在事实相反的假设

1.表示对现在的虚拟：

当条件状语从句表示的行为和主句表示的行为所发生的时间不一致时，称为混合虚拟语气或错综虚拟语气，动词的形式要根据它所表示的时间作出相应的调整。

含蓄虚拟条件句
有时候假设的情况不以if引导的条件从句形式表现出来，而是通过一个介词短语，连词或其他形式表示。
常用的词或短语有：without,with,butfor,otherwise,or等。

Butforelectricity(=Iftherewerenoelectricity),therewouldbenomodernindustry.

半虚半不虚原则
在有些句子中，并非整个句子都用虚拟语气，而是前半句表虚拟，后半句表事实，或者前半句表事实，后半句表虚拟，这类句子我们称之为“半虚半不虚”的虚拟语句。
