第一篇：英文演讲稿Procrastination1602徐韵佳Hieveryonehere.Mytopictodayisaboutprocrastination,whichmeansdelaydoingthingsthatshouldbedone.Forinstance,whencollegestudentswereaskedtowriteanessayatthegiventime,thosefirstfewmonthsjustcameandwent,andmostofthemcouldn’tquitestarttodothestuff.Sotheymightcomeupwithanawesomenewrevisedplan,comfortingthemselvesthattheystillhadmuchtimeleft.Butwhenthosemiddlemonthsactuallywentby,theydidn’twriteanywordsasbefore.Andthentwomonthsturnedintotwoweeks.Oneday,theywokeupwithonlythreedaysuntilthedeadline,stillnothavingwrittenaword,sotheyhadnochoicebuttowritethepagewithinabout72hoursandhandedinjustatthelastminute.That’sreallyarealisticphenomenonincampusnowadaysandquiteafewstudentsspreadtheworkoutlikethis.Well,IhavetoadmitthatI’malsooneofthose.Mybehaviorhasalwaysperplexedthenon-procrastinatorsaroundmeandIwanttoexplaintothemaboutwhat’sintheheadsofprocrastinators,whywearethewayweare.Apparently,there’sadifferencebetweenus.It’sknownthathumanbeingsarejustoneoftheanimalsspecies,butunlikeotheranimals,weliveinanadvancedcivilization,whichiswhywehaveanotherguyinourbrain—RationalDecisionMaker,whogivesustheabilitytothinkthatnootheranimalcando.Wecanvisualizethefutureaswellasmakeourowndecision.AlthoughbothprocrastinatorsandthereversehaveRationalDecisionMaker,theprocrastinatorssimplythinkeverything’sfineuntilthedeadlinegetscloseortherecomessomeotherscaryconsequences.Justasyouknow,thedeadlineistheonlythingthatthey’reterrifiedof,sothey’renotgoingtodoanythingonthescheduleforwork.Theyliveentirelyinthepresentmomentandmerelycareabouttwothings:easyandfun.Butthatfunisn’tactuallythatkindoffunbecausetheit’scompletelyunearned,theywillsoonexperiencefourphases—guilty,dread,anxiety,andself—hatred,allofthoseexactprocrastinatorsfeelings.Italsoturnsoutthattherearetwokindsofprocrastination.EverythingI’vetalkedabove,theyallhavedeadlines.Butthere’sanotherkindofprocrastinationcalledlong-termprocrastination.Nothinghappensatfirst.It‘smuchlessvisibleandusuallysufferslongerthanthatwithad
